The Mediterranean way of life

The city of Orange already awaits you on the first day of your journey: the grandiose theatre and the triumphal arch are testimonies of the Roman era. Immerse yourself in a glorious era of human history.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 7-day round trip in the Orange area

Orange is a city with marvellous buildings dating back to the Romans. The spectacular theatre and the triumph arc are historic witnesses of this epoch. Accommodation is in a choice typical hotel in the centre. The old town breathes the charm of the Provence with its small shops and cafés.

After breakfast start to the first roundtrip to the world wide famous wine-growing town. Châteauneuf-du-Pape. Here one of the most full bodied red wines of Provence is grown. The vineyards were cultivated by the popes, who had their second residence in the region. Via Courthezon (medieval fortress) today's tour leads back to Orange.

In full view of the mighty mountain Mont Ventoux you cycle through the vineyards of the Cote du Rhone to the historical town Vaison-la-Romaine, with many antiques. Especially worth visiting are the ruins of the old Roman town as well as the Roman church Notre Dame de Nazareth.

On Tuesday there is a wonderful market during the morning. Explore the market of Vaison-la-Romaine and enjoy the culinary variety of the region. In the afternoon you have enough time to cycle a short round trip to the typical small villages with medieval architecture.

You cycle to Sablet and Gigondas. Both villages are really well-known for the vine-culture. Afterwards you cycle to Carpentras – best-known for strawberries and Berlingots (sweet candy). Today you will see the famous spring Fontaine-de-Vaucluse, one of the most spectacular nature monuments of France. On small roads you cycle to the small town L´Isle-sur-la-Sorgue. For a long time the regional artisans used the water power of the small river Sorgue. Little water-wheels, the plane trees on the banks and numerous antique shops invite for a little stroll.

We follow the valley of the branching river Sorgue. On the way you have the opportunity to visit the grotto of Thouzon, the only public accessible stalactite cavern of the Provence. Along the Durance and on tranquil roads you reach the centre of Avignon. Take the opportunity of an idyllic stroll through the old town and visit the Popes palace.

On small roads along the Rhone you leave Avignon and you reach Orange around noon.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
