At the foot of the UNESCO world heritage

The Dolomites are your constant companion during this round trip with the e-bike or trekking bike (for sporty cyclists) at the foot of the legendary “pale mountains”, on the list of UNESCO world heritage due to their “unique monumental beauty”. Start point of this tour is the Pustertal, demarcating the Dolomites towards the North. Then you continue along the Eisack- and Etsch valleys, forming the west border, passing South Tyrol’s capital Bolzano and reaching Trento. On the southern part of the Dolomites you will cycle through the Valsugana valley to Feltre. The former Dolomites railway track will lead you into the direction of the Olympic town Cortina d’Ampezzo. Finally you will greet the famous Drei Zinnen (Three Peaks) from the Höhlensteintal and you turn back to Hochpustertal.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 8-day round trip in the Toblach area

Individual arrival at the hotel in Hochpustertal. Free, unguarded public car park near the hotel.

On the first section of the day, the „Pustertal Cycle Path“ gives you the direction. The river Rienz leads you to the Michael-Pacher town of Bruneck, which invites you for a first rest and a stroll. Back in the saddle, you cycle past the ruins of the Mühlbacher Klause, the monastery complex of Neustift or the Franzensfeste fortress and reach today ́s destination, Bressanone.

Today ́s stage beginns in Bressanone, where it is worth taking a walk through the well-kept old town with its arcades and cathedral. From afar you are greeted by the Säben monastery, which stands high above Klausen and you cycle along the Eisack river to Waidbruck, where the view of the Trostburg castle opens up to you. Here the valley narrows and leads you into the Bolzano basin and your destination today, the provincial capital of Bolzano, the city where two cultures meet. There are numerous possibilities for spending the afternoon: a leisurely stroll under the arcades of Bolzano or on the meadows of the valley, a visit to „Ötzi“, the „oldest Tyrolean“ in the archaeological museum or simply enjoying a cappuccino in one of the numerous cafés on Waltherplatz.

Today you follow the Etsch river and leave South Tyrol at the Salurner Klause, the border between German-speaking South Tyrol and Italian-speaking Trentino. South Tyrol and the Italian-speaking Trentino. Fruit trees and grapevines line your path to the former former bishop‘s town of Trento, which will delight you with its inviting old town and Buonconsiglio Castle.

You cycle past Lake Caldonazzo, which also invites you to stay for a while. The first section to Caldonazzo is relatively steep and can also be shortened by train. The trail continues through the impressive Valsugana valley to Feltre, a small town on the former „Via Claudia Augusta“, an important Roman road from Aquileia to Augsburg.

Through leafy forest avenues you reach Belluno, the small capital of the province of the same name. Today‘s route is lined with picturesque little villages that invite you to stop for a while. In the north, your gaze falls back to the mighty southern Dolomites, your companions on your first stages. You continue your way north past Longarone. This village was rebuilt in a very short time after it was flooded by a tidal wave in 1963 following a rock fall at the former Vajont dam. The newly built cycle path leads from Longarone to Pieve di Cadore, today‘s stage destination.

Pure nature, that is the motto for today. The most important and largest stopover of the railway was the famous winter sports and Olympic town of Cortina d‘Ampezzo, where you will also cycle past today - surrounded by some of the most famous Dolomite peaks. Continue along the route of the Dolomite railway to the provincial border of the province of Belluno and finally return to South Tyrol. Enjoy the panoramic view of the the rock formation of the „Three Peaks“.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
