Athletic Allgäu tour

From Germany’s biggest lake, it goes on a journey to the Allgaeu, that is known for its lush green meadows, crystal clear lakes and striking mountain summits. From Kressbronn at the Lake Constance, you cycle through a region, that is focused on tradition and habits and where the Allgeau mountain cheese tastes twice as good. Visit the magical royal castles Neuschwanstein and Hohenschwangau on your way and take a long bath in the Forggensee lake, Germany’s biggest dam. The tour is especially made for trained bikers, that are not afraid of longer stages or the one or the other altitude.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 7-day round trip in the Kressbronn area

Your tour begins on Lake Constance, in the idyllic small town of Kressbronn. Plan your arrival early, so that you have enough time to stroll through the little old town, take a swim in Lake Constance or maybe even take a trip to Friedrichshafen, and visit the famous Zeppelin museum.

You cycle briefly along the lakeside to Lindau, with its old town situated on an island, but soon leave Lake Constance to cycle along the Bodensee-Königssee cycle path up to the Allgäu hills. You pass luscious meadows with happily munching cows to Oberstaufen, just as one imagines the Allgäu should be. In the show dairy, you can find out how they make their delicious cheese and even try some.

Enjoy a great day in the Allgäu region. The Oberstaufen-card offers you numerous advantages. You can go for a short hike, take a cable car to one of the mountain tops or just relax in the outdoor pool. Staying in the Allgäu region means pure holiday feeling!

The section begins along even ground and takes you through the valley of the Konstanzer Ach river to the Großer Alpsee Lake. From there you head to Immenstadt passing the foothills of the Grünten mountain, also known as the Allgäu‘s watchman. You cycle a while along Rottachsee Lake and at Oy-Mittelberg, have reached the highest point of the tour. From here it‘s not long to this section‘s destination, Füssen and its famous sights: Neuschwanstein Castle and its „little sister“, Hohenschwangau Castle! You should not miss those impressive fairy tale castles! Our tip: It is best to book your tickets in advance.

Along Forggensee, Germany‘s biggest reservoir and the steam train circular, you cycle to Marktoberdorf. From there you cycle through Kempten Forest, encountering a number of inclines before you arrive in Kempten. Today‘s destination, Kempten, was founded by the Romans as the town of Cambodunum, and is one of the oldest towns in Germany. A guided tour of the staterooms of the residence is worth it - which include profane and sacred elements.

You cycle along a disused railway track in the Württemberg part of the Allgäu, up to the European watershed of the Rhine and the Danube. Take a break in Isny, a town on the Upper Swabian Baroque route - always worth a visit, before cycling along the Danube-Lake Constance cycle path to Wangen. Afterwards you cycle through the Tettnang hops area, the most southern hops-growing area in Germany. Through orchards you cycle back to Kressbronn.

After breakfast you start your individual return journey home or extend your stay.

Sporty tour + e-bike = more momentum and energy

You think adventure, calf workouts and e-bikes are mutually exclusive? Far from it, we say! Cycling with electric power can open up whole new worlds of cycling.

Concept

For cycling holiday connoisseurs who already appreciate the advantages of e-bikes and who would like to cover longer distances at a brisk pace, the combination of an e-bike & a sporty cycling tour offers a new adventure in the form of longer distances and more challenging terrain.

Even those who are not (yet) fit enough but are still craving a sporty PEDALO bike tour should go for it - and treat themselves to an e-bike for support. With a gentle push, it gets you right into the thick of it all!

Or are you travelling as a couple and your partner is always ahead of you? With an e-bike, you will be able to keep up easily.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
