Discovery tour in the Surselva

From Reichenau, the lowest point of Surselva, you will ride through the entire length of the valley on a gravel bike. In the process, you will discover the many highlights of this region in constant ups and downs. The bright rocks of the Rhine Gorge shine in sharp contrast to the turquoise-green of the Rhine. The dreamy villages and the small town of Ilanz entice you after the tours with Bündner Nusstorte and other specialties. The many side valleys of the Surselva are also well known. You visit the Val Lumnezia and pedal up to the Maighelshütte near the source of the Rhine. With the Gravel Bike you will also discover the somewhat rougher paths of the Grisons mountains. Get on the saddle: the discovery tour can start.

Arrival in Chur (organised by the traveller)

Along the Rhine to Bonaduz and then through the Rhine Gorge. The panoramic road above the "Little Swiss Canyon" offers fantastic views of the white rocks and the turquoise-green river. Hairpin bends lead to Versam and from here towards the Safiental. Through the Calörtscher forest down to Brün and on to Valendas. The tour ends in Ilanz.

First steeply uphill to Ruschein and via Siat to the highest point in Darpagaus. The descent down into the Val da Pigniu is followed by a return ascent to the dam wall at the end of the valley. Now continue over hill and dale to Andiast and down into the valley to Waltensburg. The route leads you through tunnels to the stage town of Brigels.

An easy descent brings you to the train station in Trun. With the RhB to Tschamutt and from there it gets sporty, because in the direction of Oberalp Pass it goes steeply uphill. From Siara you can hike to the headwaters of the Rhine at Lake Toma or continue to the Maighelshütte for a lunch break. This is followed by a descent on a natural road to Sedrun and an ascent to the Uaul Cavogia plateau. Through mixed forests down to the Benedictine monastery in Disentis. The best Capuns in Switzerland awaits you at the hotel.

In constand ups and downs, it goes along the Rhine through gravel banks and floodplain forests. A long climb leads to a plateau. Shortly after passing through the hamlet of St. Martin, you reach the highest point. Now it's downhill to the village of Obersaxen.

Right at the beginning, steeply uphill to Alp Prada. Take a deep breath and enjoy the descent, because shortly afterwards the next climb up to Alp Nova is imminent. This is followed by views of the Val Lumnezia, the Rhine Gorge and many, many curves down to Ilanz.

Lake Cauma is the first highlight of the day, followed by a view of the Vorderrhein. A swim in Lake Cresta, refreshments in Flims and a descent down to the Rhine Gorge provide variety on this day. The trip past Bonaduz and Reichenau to Chur concludes the tour.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
