Cycling bliss in the vineyards

Who among us hasn't cycled along the Danube Cycle Path, arrived in the Wachau - and then found it hard to tear themselves away? Yes, you know that feeling too, don't you? At the very latest, it sets in when you sit together in a cheerful group in one of the enchanting little wine villages with a glass of fine wine. For many, however, it is also - very understandably - when they take their first look at the beautiful landscape.

The Danube and the vineyards. The ancient culture that has been preserved in such famous buildings as the Melk and Göttweig Abbeys or the Dürnstein castle ruins. The penchant for indulgence of the people who live here, which is unmistakable at every bike stop: the Wachau between Melk and Krems is made for leaving everyday life behind and letting yourself drift away.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 6-day location-based tour in the Krems area

Individual arrival in Krems and check into your accommodation. An evening stroll through the town is the perfect way to get in the mood for your upcoming cycling vacation.

The tireless can take a short round trip to Göttweig Abbey (approx. 20 km).

You start the day with a comfortable train ride to the Lower Austrian capital of St. Pölten. Take enough time for a stroll through the baroque old town.

Your cycle tour takes you along the Traisental cycle path - one of the most popular cycle routes in the Mostviertel. You will be enchanted by the changing landscape. Cycle via Herzogenburg to Traismauer and follow the last section along the Danube back to Krems.

After a hearty breakfast, you will take a wonderful boat trip to Melk. There you can visit the largest monastery in the world (admission included) and take a short stroll through the old town.

Your cycle tour back to Krems continues along the Danube through the beautiful Wachau countryside. The enchanting ambience of the orchards and vineyards will amaze you. Via the wine towns of Spitz, Weißenkirchen and Dürnstein, you finally return to Krems. We have also arranged a wine tasting for you on this day.

The third river is already on your program. The train takes you quickly to Rosenburg/Kamp. There you can visit the Renaissance castle (optional) before following the course of the Kamp back to Krems.

A short stop in Langenlois is definitely worthwhile - the wine town welcomes you with a good drop of wine!

Today you will once again explore the Danube. This time, however, in an easterly direction. Always following the course of the river, you cycle via Traismauer to Tulln. In the city of flowers, you can pay a visit to the Egon Schiele Museum (incl.).

Sporty cyclists can continue the tour to Vienna before taking the comfortable train back to Krems. In the evening, you can reflect on the many impressions of this wonderful cycle tour over a glass of wine.

After breakfast, your journey home begins. We are happy to book an extended stay on request.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Keep riding, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your cycling holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you simply get to ride your bike and enjoy your holiday.

For beginners, improvers - and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

This type of cycling holiday is designed for anyone who likes to take it easy. If you’re feeling a bit too sore for cycling or the weather isn't looking good, you can simply take a day off. Location-based tours are also ideal for first-time cyclists who may not yet know exactly how much they can or want to tackle in a day. No unnecessary stress, just pure freedom - so your tour can be all about the joy of cycling!

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
