For your 8-day location-based tour in the Montecatini area

Information on the tour and bike fitting in the evening. For the rest of the day, we recommend taking a walk in the spa park or taking the historical rack railway train to Montecatini Alto.

Today, you will cycle along wonderful ways through olive groves to the charming town of Serravalle. Beautiful panoramic views over the valley will reward you for conquering the short climbs before you will return downhill to Montecatini. On your way, you will also pass the historic town of Montecatini Alto, where you can enjoy a glass of wine at the romantic Piazza Guisti.

The day starts with a drive to the summit of Monte Pisano (900 m) where you can enjoy an impressive panorama of Pisa and the sea. From here you will start your bike tour with a long descent into the valley. On the bike path along a Roman Viaduct you will get to the Leaning Tower of Pisa. Later, you will continue to the Mediterranean coast and through the nature park “Macchia Lucchese” to the “Pearl of the Tyrrhenian coast”: Viareggio. At the end of your tour, you will take the train back to Montecatini.

The capital of Tuscany offers a unique range of palaces, churches, museums and art treasures of the Renaissance to its visitors. Today, you and your bike get a break. Alternatively, you can enjoy the day in your wellness hotel.

Today, you will take a shuttle to Casciana Terme. On wonderful ways, through vineyards and rolling hills, you will cycle to San Gimignano. On your way, you will see images of the original Tuscany as they have been painted many times. Just before you reach today’s destination, the silhouettes of the famous medieval towers appear in front of you. After your trip, you will have a transfer back to your hotel.

On the sixth day, you will cycle on small paths through the olive groves of Montecatini to Vinci, the birthplace of Leonardo. This museum dedicated to his genius and his inventions is very impressive. On your way back to the hotel, you will cycle over gently rolling hills and through the lovely countryside of Montalbano.

First, you will cycle through the small, medieval wine town of Monte Carlo, where one of the few white wines of Tuscany flourishes. Then you will continue your tour along the Wine Road “Colline Lucchesi”, through the backcountry, past the beautiful Villa Torriggiani to Lucca. A bike ride on the historic city walls offers magnificent views of churches and towers that rise above the countless roofs of the city. The train will take you back to your hotel.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Keep riding, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your cycling holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you simply get to ride your bike and enjoy your holiday.

For beginners, improvers - and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

This type of cycling holiday is designed for anyone who likes to take it easy. If you’re feeling a bit too sore for cycling or the weather isn't looking good, you can simply take a day off. Location-based tours are also ideal for first-time cyclists who may not yet know exactly how much they can or want to tackle in a day. No unnecessary stress, just pure freedom - so your tour can be all about the joy of cycling!

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
