But a cycling holiday in South Tyrol will definitely open up a whole new world for you. Between Merano and Lake Garda there are fantastic cycle paths that offer you exciting rides – past ice worlds, mountain ranges, orchards and vineyards. Let South Tyrol literally melt in your mouth, because Caldaro wines and fruit are world famous. Would you like to swap your car for a Eurobike bike? Wonderful, because this cycle tour is ideal for newbies!

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 7-day tour from Meran to Torbole/Riva

Day
01
Arrival in Meran (organised by the traveller)

Take the train line "Venosta" towards the mountain pass ‘Resia’. From the town of Malles onwards to Glurns (perfectly preserved Medieval city wall). Via the Montani ruins past Silandro and heading south to Merano. Castles and palaces dot your way or tower high above (i.e. Juval castle owned by the Austrian mountaineer Reinhold Messner). While cycling enjoy marvellous views of the impressive ‘Ortler’ massif and the "Stilfserjoch". This stage can be shortened if you wish.

Via Lana (Schnatterpeck altar) and through numerous orchards and vineyards in the area of the South Tyrolian wine route, past several well-fortified castles, palaces and ruins onwards to Appiano and along the base of Sigmundskron castle (Messner-Mountain museum) to Bolzano (pergolas, "Ötzi" museum).

There are two ways to get to Lake Caldaro: either the slightly hilly way on the bike path via Appiano or on the flat cycle path along the Adige dam until the charming wine village Ora.

From Ora you continue on the cycle path along the Adige dam. The "Salurner Klause" is the end of the German speaking part of South Tyrol. The route leads you through the famous Trentino wine regions into the ancient diocesan town Trento (lovely old part of town, cathedral, Buonconsiglio palace).

Shortly after the old Tyrolian border town of Rovereto, our cycling tour leaves the Adige valley. In Mori you will taste the world famous pistachio ice-cream in the Gelateria Bologna or a freshly squeezed fruit juice. After the only ascent worth mentioning (approx. 150 m)over the small San Giovanni pass, the path leads downhill along the lake towards Torbole. The cycle tour either ends in Riva or Torbole.

In short, these tours are for all those who prefer relaxed cycling and easy enjoyment for body, mind and soul.

Topography

Along the Adige, it is flat throughout or slightly downhill. There are small climbs to tackle whenever the cycle path leaves the riverbank.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
