Romantic days in the unique heath landscape

Heather plants cover the ground in many places, alternating with pine forests, meadows and fields. Heather sheep graze in the vast landscape and pretty little towns and villages blend harmoniously into the overall picture. The Lüneburg Heath is a unique German natural area. It has inspired numerous poets and painters and is perfect for romantics and anyone who wants to become one. Experience the marvellous landscape on trips around the heath town of Schneverdingen.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 6-day location-based tour in the  Schneverdingen area

Individual journey to Schneverdingen. Perhaps you will get to know the heath in the evening with some culinary delights: Heidschnucken roast and buckwheat pancakes?

The Aueweg leads through meadows and fields across the Fintau to Wintermoor, the gateway to the heath. On the southern edge of the Höpen local recreation area, the festival grounds of the annual heather blossom festival held at the end of August are located on a hill. In a show garden laid out as a heather circle, you will find 130 different types of heather with around 120,000 plants, so that the variety of flowering heather can be marvelled at throughout the year.

You travel via Schneverdingen-Zahrensen to the watermill in Lünzen. The mill, which was first mentioned in 1587, was in operation until the end of the 1970s and has been powered by steam, diesel and electric motors for the last 70 years. One of the original two water wheels has been removed and can be visited.

Your journey continues to Fintel. Here you will find the home of Friedrich Freudenthal, a well-known North German local poet. You return to Schneverdingen via the villages of Haswede and Osterwede.

The train takes you to Soltau (ticket included, duration approx. 15 minutes). Soltau has an impressive town hall and the North German Toy Museum. The town is famous for the Heidepark Soltau amusement park and the Soltau Museum, which looks back over four centuries of history. You can reach the historic site of Wiedeholz by bike, where the warlike event of 28 June 1519 is explained to you in a gunner's hut.

The route continues through the southern Osterheide to the Möhr farm. The heath farm was farmed until 1977. In Wolderdingen there is a church steeped in history, which was extensively restored in 2000. The route leads through the Böhmheide forest back to the starting point.

‘Heath, forest and people stories’ is the theme of the former heath farm and forest experience centre ‘Ehrhorn 1’. Here you can take a break. You then cycle back to Schneverdingen through typical heathland villages such as Wilsede and Niederhaverbeck, through the Haverbeeke valley.

Individual return journey to your home town or start of your extension stay in Schneverdingen.

There are places in the world of cycle touring that are just so picturesque and diverse that once you have arrived, you can't tear yourself away. They have so much to offer that you will struggle to decide which direction to cycle in first. These special spots are where we at PEDALO have created our location-based tours just for you.

Keep riding, but always stay in the same place

In contrast to staged tours and round trips, you won't cycle from place to place, and thus from hotel to hotel. Instead, you will stay in one and the same accommodation for the duration of your cycling holiday. This hotel will be the starting point for fascinating cycling excursions in the surrounding area. Every day, there will be new routes for you to explore. Every evening, you will return to hosts who put their heart and soul into their work and offer you a pleasantly cosy atmosphere with a healthy dose of class. Instead of having to pack your bags each day, you simply get to ride your bike and enjoy your holiday.

For beginners, improvers - and anyone seeking a breath of fresh air

This type of cycling holiday is designed for anyone who likes to take it easy. If you’re feeling a bit too sore for cycling or the weather isn't looking good, you can simply take a day off. Location-based tours are also ideal for first-time cyclists who may not yet know exactly how much they can or want to tackle in a day. No unnecessary stress, just pure freedom - so your tour can be all about the joy of cycling!

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
