The itinerary

For your 8-day tour from Vienna to Bratislava
Tour information and bike fitting. The imperial city can be explored by bike very well. The famous Ringstraße with its splendid buildings such as the State Opera, Parliament, Burgtheater, City Hall and not to forget the Hofburg Palace are considered the most magnificent examples. But also Kärntnerstraße and St. Stephens cathedral and the quiet corners and alleyways of Old Vienna are worth seeing.
The bike tour will begin by the Danube Island and takes you on bike paths to Schönbrunn. After a sightseeing tour (not included in the tour price) you will first cycle, to the city of Baden. The old spa town in the Vienna Woods can tell a long story. It is certainly no coincidence that here Beethoven completed his "Ninth" with the Ode to Joy. The famous Casino of Baden, the beautiful Roman spa and the thermal spa in the Art Deco style from 1926 with which the Viennese nobility once brought the Adriatic beach to Baden, are worth seeing.
You will leave Baden on beautiful bike paths and a little later you will find yourself in a completely new landscape. The atmosphere at Europe's westernmost steppe lake almost feels a little strange, since here, at the foothills of the Leithagebirge mountains, the Hungarian puszta starts. You can visit Eisenstadt Castle and the Roman stone quarry in St. Margaret or other sightseeing destinations (not included in the tour price). The Burgenland wines are world famous. While driving through the hilly vineyards, you can enjoy a magnificent view over the lake. Rust and Mörbisch are probably the most charming wine towns in Burgenland.
Via or from the festival town of Mörbisch, where the famous operetta festival takes place every summer on the atmospheric lake stage, the route leads through gentle vineyards with magnificent views across the lake to the Hungarian border. You soon reach the former town of Ödenburg, which has retained an old town centre that is well worth seeing. Today's Sopron invites you to linger in its lively alleyways and beautiful squares. A beautiful cycle path leads back to Mörbisch/Rust through the charming.
In the morning you will take a ferry to Illmitz. Today, it’s all about the national park “Neusiedlersee-Seewinkel”. The patios of birdwatchers are the only elevations you will find. Moreover, it should be noted that here, as well as on the slopes of the west side, between Podersdorf, Illmitz and Apetlon in the flat plains of the vineyards, excellent quality wines are produced. Some Trockenbeerenauslese wines of this area enjoy an excellent reputation. You will also come across some smaller or larger salt lakes (called Lacken) which are about 50 cm deep. This attraction of Seewinkel helped the region to its unique flora and fauna - and of course the “Lacken” bike trail to its name. The bike path will take you past wetlands, pastures and vineyards.
A day to relax and recover: numerous leisure activities provide variety. The lake is a paradise for sailors, surfers, and swimmers. Cyclists may want to ride their bikes around the lake on the pretty Kirschblütenweg cycle path.
Relaxed and refreshed, the route will lead you via Rohrau, the birthplace of Joseph and Michael Haydn, into the "Roman Carnuntum", where once the amber and the limes roads crossed (Heidentor - a huge triumphal monument). At the Open Air Museum Petronell, you can visit a faithfully reconstructed Roman urban quarter (not included in the tour price). The border town of Hainburg is located directly on the Danube, just a few kilometers from your final destination Bratislava. We recommend an evening stroll through the beautiful old town.

Frequently asked
questions

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.
The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.
Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.
The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.
Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.
Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.
Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!
Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
