Thanks to the well-developed and almost flat Bodensee cycle path, every day you are rapidly on your way in one of the most beautiful holiday and leisure regions of Germany, Switzerland and Austria. You start in Constance, the historic council town. During the next days, you get to know the peninsula Höri, the unknown Schaffhausen and the waterfalls of the river Rhine, the medieval castle in Meersburg, the zeppelin town Friedrichshafen, as well as the festival town Bregenz and much more. So let’s go to Lake Constance!

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 6-day round trip in the Constance area

Take the opportunity to visit the island of Mainau, wander through Constance’s old town or visit the aquariums in the Sea Life Center and go to the Archaeological Museum.

Along the shores of the Untersee, you will reach Stein am Rhein with its frescoed medieval houses. Switching between Germany and Switzerland several times, you reach the cantonal capital of Status: 13.08.2024 Schaffhausen, overlooked by the Munot fortress, whose citizens competed in building bay windows. A few kilometres downstream, a boat trip awaits you to the Rhine Falls Rock in the middle of the waterfall.

You follow the Rhine back to Stein am Rhein and on around the artist peninsula Höri to Radolfzell. Not only Hermann Hesse, but also Otto Dix once found his adopted home on the Höri. After Radolfzell you cross the Bodanrück hill and lose sight of the lake for a short time. But not for long, because at Bodman you have reached the Überlinger See, the northern arm of Lake Constance. Now you ride along the shore to Überlingen.

Take a short stroll along the promenade in Überlingen, one of the most beautiful on the lake, before setting off on today‘s stage. And now a day full of highlights awaits you: The pilgrimage church in Birnau, the Lake Dwelling Museum in Uhldingen, the Old Castle Meersburg and the Zeppelin Museum in Friedrichshafen are on the way to Lindau, the famous island city. Either you stay overnight in Lindau or in Bregenz with its famous sea stage.

Now, you cycle through the nature reserve of the Rhine Delta, where the Alpenrhein flows into Lake Constance. At Altenrhein, you cross the border to Switzerland and follow the cycle path to Arbon, Romanshorn and then back to Constance. The cycle path is almost always right at the side of the lake here. This stretch us flat and easy to cycle, unless in a stronger westerly wind. You will frequently pass places where you can go swimming and refresh yourself in the lovely cool waters of the lake.

After breakfast you start your individual return journey home or extend your stay.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
