A little more than a weekend - but really a lot of vacation. On this cycle tour, you start in the lively university town of Marburg, famous for the Elisabeth Church and the Landgrave's Palace. Look forward to the relaxed atmosphere in the city with its quaint student pubs. Tourism, culture and history have always inspired each other in Marburg.

In Wetzlar, you can enjoy the tranquillity of the idyllic alleyways of the historic half-timbered town, marvel at the world-famous Limburg Cathedral and the completely listed city center. Immerse yourself in the flow of time. Living Middle Ages in a modern city. Enjoy a scenic highlight on the last day of cycling, away from all traffic as you cycle through untouched valley scenery before your trip comes to an end in Bad Ems.

The itinerary
at a glance

For your 5-day tour from Marburg to Bad Ems

You should plan enough time to visit the historic old town and the Elisabeth church. Enjoy the student atmosphere and visit one of the many rustic pubs in the evening.

Look forward to the beautiful Lahn cycle path, which leads through the wide Lahn valley past idyllic bathing ponds to Wetzlar. Explore Wetzlar's old town and the interesting cathedral on an afternoon stroll. Stroll through the medieval market square, discover steep stairs, narrow streets and romantic corners. Experience the modern side of Wetzlar on the optics course. Here you will discover optical phenomena, such as a large diamond made of optical glass, which reflects the light with a sparkle, or a kaleidoscope with infinite reflections.

You leave Wetzlar over the stone bridge and you will soon reach the Fortuna pit (+ approx. 8 km), the only iron ore mine in Germany, in which visitors can see ore mining using original machinery. The route to Weilburg, whose renaissance castle is located on a high rocky ridge above the Lahn, remains unforgettable in the landscape. The course of the river then winds between Taunus and Westerwald. You cycle on the paved towpath via Aumenau and Runkel to Limburg with its world-famous cathedral.

Away from any traffic, you roll along the Lahn cycle path through an untouched valley landscape from Diez to Balduinstein. This day has one climb in store. Then take a rest at the Arnstein monastery or Nassau castle before cycling to Bad Ems. You will be thrilled, because your first look is at the architectural gem of Bad Ems: the Kurhaus, the Kurcafe, the Marble Hall, the Kurtheater and the casino are presented in a long row. This "chocolate side" of the Lahn finds a worthy and beautiful continuation in the gardens of the park. Enjoy your stay and let your mind wander.

Your vacation comes to an end after breakfast. Should you wish to return to Marburg, we recommend our transfer service.

Your travel documents usually include general travel information, a hotel list, a road book and/or detailed maps as well as a textual description of the route; you will also get luggage tags and possibly also vouchers and/or information material on the various sightseeing attractions. The exact contents of the information package depend on the booked trip and its included services.

The documents will be sent to you approx. two to three weeks before the start of your tour. Depending on the trip, you may receive them partly in digital form and partly by post – or you will receive the hotel list and general travel information in advance by e-mail, and the remaining documents along with the maps on site at your starting hotel.

Please note that the travel documents are issued exclusively for PEDALO guests and are therefore not available without a booking.

The transport of your luggage from hotel to hotel is included as part of the basic service package for all staged tours and round trips in the PEDALO programme. You simply leave your luggage out for our courier in the morning before you set off on your cycling stage. When you arrive at your next accommodation in the late afternoon or early evening, it will be there waiting for you.

Just in case, we recommend always packing a change of clothes in your saddle bag, especially for short stages which you may cover more quickly than the luggage driver.

Depending on how the logistics are organised on site, there may be restrictions on the maximum weight and/or number of pieces of luggage. You will receive more detailed information on this with the travel documents well before the start of your trip.

Travel insurance is not included in our prices. You can decide whether to get a quote elsewhere or simply book your travel insurance online at pedalo.com/en/service/travel-insurance. In any case, we recommend that you take out travel cancellation insurance!

Please note that for last-minute bookings (less than 30 days before the start of the trip), insurance cover can only be taken out within 3 days of booking.
